European Union's Aviation Data Not Complete

The European Union Commission has not yet the latest and complete data about Indonesian airlines. The data what the Commission asked for before auditing in Indonesia.
According to Transportation Minister, Jusman Syafii Djamal, Europe's side acknowledged it did not have all the data. “The proof is even Garuda Indonesia was regarded as an unknown airline,” he said in Tangerang yesterday (23/7).

He said he was astonished as the data on Indonesia’s aviation by the European Union (EU) was in fact incomplete. This is despite the fact that so far the relationship between Europe and Garuda Indonesia has been going well, for example via Lufthansa or KLM--Dutch airlines.

The request of Indonesian aviation data was related to Europe’s team plan to audit Indonesian aviation. The audit was the Indonesian government's demand to for reviewing the ban against Indonesian airlines from flying to Europe since July 6.

Jusman said Europe's requesting the aviation data was conveyed via facsimile addressed to the Transportation Department on July 22. The letter also conveyed Europe's willingness to come to Indonesia to perform a direct audit.

In addition to the latest data on Indonesian airlines, the Commission asked for the data of the national airlines blueprint , strategic action, implementation deadlines and national aviation authority improvement .

Bambang S. Ervan, Head of the Transportation Department's Public Communication Center, said that the European team will be represented by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). “ They sent a contact person, that is EASA Executive Director Patrick Goudou,” he said. It is estimated that the European team will arrive at the beginning of August.

Australia's Howard defends Indonesia terror warning

Australia's Prime Minister John Howard on Monday defended warnings from his government that a terrorist attack in Indonesia may be imminent, despite there being no direct intelligence that the chances of a strike had increased.

The Foreign Affairs Department reissued a travel advisory to Indonesia on Sunday, warning Australians to rethink travel to the Southeast Asian country because of the threat of terrorist attacks. The advisory did not raise the threat level for attacks.

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said Sunday the advisory was reissued because of the June 9 arrest in Indonesia of Abu Dujana, an alleged leader of terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah, and that a terrorist attack "could be imminent."

Jemaah Islamiyah is blamed for several attacks against Western targets in Indonesia over the lastfew years, including two bombings on the resort island of Bali in 2002 and 2005.
